I’ve been wondering for a while, could I get a nice crunchy low fat raw vegan crackers without loading up on seeds or other heavy ingredients.

Not that there is anything wrong with seeds, they are actually extremely healthy and provide a ton of nutrition. But sometimes you just feel that there is enough fatty and filling ingredients in your salad already, but you do crave a little extra crunch and flavour with it.

And I was pleasantly surprised to find out that you can make a perfectly crunchy and delicious cracker with no seeds whatsoever! Yay! πŸ™‚ I will experiment with these no-fat crackers in the near future.

But this time, I still decided to add a little bit of flax seeds to these low fat raw vegan crackers, because we do need to balance these Omega 6s in our beloved avocado and tahini with a little hit of Omega 3 from flax or chia seeds.

Should we be afraid of fat?

Before we continue to our wonderful yummy recipe, I wanted to touch on the question about fat. It is still quite controversial topic. Many years after the death of Dr. Atkins, high fat diets are still all the rage. But on the other hand, we see a lots of popular YouTubers still preaching “the fat you eat is the fat you wear”. So how we figure out where is the truth and how much fat we, real people in real life supposed to eat?

Low fat plant based diet is definitely a very helpful tool for overcoming the leading causes of death in developed countries, like heart attack, stroke, obesity and diabetes. A very low fat diet can do wonders for people who’ve been eating a standard high fat, high sugar processed food for most of their life.

But what about young girls and guys who are already at their healthy weight and trying to look like a photoshopped Instagram model?Unfortunately, in this case a very low fat diet might lead to deficiencies, extreme hunger and hormonal disbalances.

Fat is a very important building block in our body. It’s especially important for young women. We do not need a whole ton of it, but we do need enough. So let’s not be afraid of healthy plant based fats. And if you have a craving for it, go ahead and enjoy. As long as you are eating when you hungry and stopping when you full, you should be totally fine adding some healthy fats to your raw vegan or vegan food.

Low fat raw vegan crackers

So here you go – a delicious low fat raw vegan cracker recipe

This recipe is enough to fill about 3-4 dehydrator sheets. So if you need to make more, just double or triple each ingredient.

Soak about 1/3 cup of flax seeds. I took 75 grams. You can put more or less.

Put in a food processor or pulse in a blender in small batches:
4 tomatoes
2 bell peppers
5-6 big mild onion bulbs

Then separately pulse soaked flax seeds.

Mix it all together.

Add a bit of:

sliced mushrooms
chopped dill
hot pepper

a small (or big) handful of shelled hemp seeds
And whatever other spices you like πŸ™‚

Spread it on a dehydrator sheet in a thick enough layer, so the “dough” is not breaking. Dehydrate for 8-10 hours or overnight. Flip, take the sheet off and continue dehydrating for a few more hours until crisp.

Let me know if you have questions. Enjoy!Β
